Chase knew almost nothing about magical objects, so he didn't know what to expect as he entered the classroom. He took out a roll of parchment and copied the name of the course then wrote the date and waited for the lecture to begin.

Merri cheerfully skipped into the room and slide into an empty seat next to some rather dorky looking guy. She peeked over his arm to see what he was writing. "There aren't any notes on the board yet you know." When the guy looked up at her she grinned and waved. "My name's Merri, are you new here?"

Shuyin was taking a nap in his desk. He arrived early for his Magical Artifacts class and decided to take a short nap while waiting for the class to start.

Upon hearing a familiar voice, he opened one eye and peeked to see who it was. He saw Merri talking to a new student.

Rinoa attended today's Magical Artifacts class. She loves learning such and was really excited for her first lesson.

She sat behind Shuyin who was taking a nap. Rinoa was waiting for the class to begin when she noticed a girl entered the room and went to check out someone new. She giggled as she heard Merri's comment.

Chase laughed at the girl then smiled back. "Yep. I'm the new guy. Chase Felix." He moved his arm so the girl could see his parchment better. "And I'm not taking notes. Just writing out the course title. Shouldn't you be doing the same?"

Merri nodded and took out a roll of parchment. Magical Artfacts, she wrote then frowned and waved her wand, clearing the parchment. She began again, Magical Artifacts, satisfied she set down her quill and looked around the classroom.

When she caught a glimpse of Rinoa and Shuyin she jumped up excitedly. "Yay! Shuyin! Rin!" She tugged on Chase's arm and forced him to follow her. "Meet Chase! He is new here. So we should be his friend."

Shuyin raised his head when he saw Merri's walking towards his direction. He looked back and noticed Rinoa's there and smiled at her.

Then he looked back at Merri and extended his index finger just above his forehead giving a salute gesture "Yo!".

Shuyin looked at the guy Merri was dragging and smiled "Hi Chase. Shuyin here, Orbis Terrarum, second year"

Rinoa smiled and nodded when Shuyin looked at her.

Then diverted her eyes to Merri and the boy, she waved and smiled at them. "Hi Chase. My name's Rinoa. Habitus house. Fifth year" she started and extended her right hand for him to shake.

Chase covered his face, embarrassed by the girls actions, but allowed her to drag him along anyways. Merri was being kind and he did appreciate that.
When he reached the two friends he uncovered his face and laughed then shook hands with the girl who introduced herself and Rinoa. "You are all from different houses but still friends?"

Merri sat on the edge of Rin's desk and smiled at everyone, "Why wouldn't we be be friends?" She pouted as she entertained the idea that everyone who she thought was a friend really secretly disliked her. What if they talk about me behind my back! She suddenly gasped and rocked backwards on the desk. "That's impossible!" she declared, unaware that nobody had been able to hear what she had been thinking.

Shuyin nodded and grinned at Chase's statement. Then he looked at Merri and tilted his head a little wondering what has gotten into her, suddenly saying "That's impossible!"

"Impossible?" he asked a little confused.

She let go of Chase hand afterwards and nodded "Yes, we are". Rinoa watched Merri as she sat her desk. She wasn't sure if Merri noticed Rinoa's capability to read one's mind once she had focused her attention to someone. Of course there would be limits but since Rinoa had opened her heart to Merri, she was able to read her thoughts that time.

"That's impossible!" was what Merri stated when she moved backwards. Rinoa shook her head and smiled warmly at Merri. "No, dear. Not everyone's like that" she explained.

Chase looked back and forth a few times, glancing at everyone's face and was relieved to see that Shuyin was just as confused, but Rinoa did not look to be confused. "Who's not like what?" Now he felt even more confused. "Am I missing something here? Is this some kind of inside joke?"

Merri nodded in agreement with Rinoa then smiled at everyone, "I was worried that you all didn't like me and talked about me behind my back, but like Rin said I shouldn't worry because not everyone is like that!" She stopped and blinked a few times, "But how did you know what I was thinking?" She turned and gave Rinoa a very curious look.

After hearing Merri's explanation, he now looked at Rinoa and thought of the same question. "Yeah, how'd you know what she was thinking" he asked Rinoa.

Just when everyone's eyes are now on her, she lifted her hands in front of her "Now, now calm down" Rinoa said smiling weakly.

"You see, once you have reached 4th year, you can choose to claim an ability to read minds" Rinoa added.

Tapping a finger on her chin she looked up and said "And I was able to claim it, since last year" and looked back to the others then added "But wasn't always using it since of course, it has limitations" she scratched the back of her head.

She turned her head to Merri and apologized "I'm sorry for intruding your thoughts, Merri. I was just worried that you might actually think like that forever"

Chase looked surprised at the confession. He didn't know that such magic was possible and wondered what other abilities could be learned. "What kind of limitations? I mean wow mind reading." He shook his head, amusing the idea of learning the thoughts of those around him. I've barely learned any spells and this girl can read minds!

Merri gasped then stared at Rinoa as she explained her ability to everyone. "That's amazing Rin! How could I be upset? You're so awesome!" She giggled and scrunched up her face in concentration pretending to attempt to read someone's mind.

"I can't even read my own thoughts sometimes!" She turned to Chase as he asked further questions then looked back to Rinoa. "Yes! What kind of limitations?" She chimed in agreement with the boy.

"Wow" he exclaimed. "I never knew such ability can be possessed here in this school" he added.

Like everyone else, he also looked at Rinoa, curious, but did not bother to repeat the question. Shuyin patiently waited for her to answer.

Rinoa scratched her head. "I'm sorry I don't know the limitations since this is actually the first time I've tried using it" she said smiling weakly.

"I was also surprised to learn that we can have such ability when we reach fourth year" she added.

Chase tilted his head then grinned. "Well what if we try and figure out the limitations?" He leaned against the classroom wall as he tried to think up a clever way to test her ability. "I can think of a name and try and block out my thought?"
He closed his eyes and thought up a simple name, Lisa, and concentrated on the name for a few seconds then tried to block the thought out at the same time. It was actually rather difficult to do.

Merri pouted when she heard that Rinoa wasn't very familiar with the extent of her ability. She couldn't be mad though, it was a little weird to become accustomed to learning something new. I remember the first time I discovered being telekinetic. She giggled at the idea then suddenly jerked her head up, Chase wants to test Rin's abilities?

"Would you mind doing that, Rin?" Merri tilted her head and looked at Rin's face, making sure that Chase hadn't made her feel uncomfortable. "You don't have to if you don't want."

Leonardo appeared out of a light. "I couldn't help but overhear your conversation." he said. "Mind Reading is one form of Telekenisis. Telekenisis is Mind Reading, Mind Controlling, and Mind Blocking. Some of these are known as Black Magic, or Dark Magic.. Simply because mostly Dark Wizards only possess them and use them often. It is very rare that any child that isn't Pure Blood of two Dark Wizards have these kinds of powers." he stated..

"Mind Reading is simple, and self-explanatory. You read someone's mind.. But that is about it. You are also able to insert thoughts, which is Mind Controlling. But when controlling someone's mind and forcing them to do what you want, there is another word for it, which you will learn later in DADA. Mind Blocking is when you can block out thoughts of other Telekenetics, or block someone's mind and configure their train of thought."

Just as when the conversations getting more interesting, the Headmaster appeared before them and explained everything. A question pooped in his mind. "Well, excuse me for asking Headmaster, but I couldn't help wondering, if it is a form of Black or Dark Magic then why is it up for grabs in the academy when a student reached his/her fourth year. Also, if by somehow, Rinoa here's not a child of two Pure Blood Dark Magicians"

"Are you?" he looked at the now confused looking Rinoa then immediately looked back at the Headmaster and continued with his inquiry "then that would make us assume that she's rare?"

Rinoa looked at Merri, nodded then smiled. As Chase suggested Rinoa to test the said ability and had come up with a name and then tried to block it, she shook her head. Just when she was about to answer him that she couldn't figure out what he was thinking, the Headmaster appeared out of a light.

The Headmaster began to explain the subject for them she went completely confused. She heard Shuyin's questions, and looked at Shuyin when he asked if she was a child of two Pure-blooded Dark Magicians. Rinoa shook her head once more making an answer. Then she drifted her eyes at the Headmaster, waiting for an answer. Surely, she's a Pure-Blood but got confused if her parents were Dark Wizards. She knew all this time they weren't and was sure of it.

"Maybe it's the latter?" she said smiling weakly.
